We live on a fairly quiet street next door to a fire station. The firefighters serve as a de facto neighborhood watch, and nothing much happens. This morning Sofia and i left to catch the bus to school, and she pointed out a couple of empty small, brown bottles, similar to those that contain vanilla extract, on the sidewalk in front of the fire station: "What are those? I saw some others over there." My response: "Bottles," which seemed self-evident to me, "no time to investigate."
On my way home, however, i did have time to investigate, and the bottles turned out to be hair dye. There are two in front of the fire station, one in our front yard, and another two on the sidewalk in front of our neighbors in the other direction. There were no bottles of activator, just color. The color of the dye itself, of course, is a mystery; the bottles are meant for professionals, and they are only marked with a code to indicate what color they contained. (Note: I could go back outside, make note of the code, and look it up online, but that would take more effort than i am willing to expend right now.)
What went on last night? Did a St Patrick's Day pub crawl get out of hand and roam our back streets pouring dye on unsuspecting heads? Is there another sidewalk somewhere nearby strewn with empty bottles of activator? Was a hairdresser mugged? I will never know, i suppose.

Edit: The bottles are for Clairol dye, colors B058 (blonde) and B052 (brown). Pretty boring.
